On June 5th, as the sun reaches 75° ecliptic longitude, the Grain in Ear solar term arrives. Marking the beginning of midsummer, it witnesses all living things flourishing in unrestrained vitality.
Mang Zhong (Grain in Ear) signifies busy planting—the most labor-intensive period for farmers. This is the final window to sow grain with awns, beyond which the opportunity is lost. While wheat harvest concludes in the north, southern paddies awaken to rice transplanting.
Deep within Guizhou’s Moon Mountains, dawn’s first light pierces the mist, stirring the Tang'anand Xiage terraces to life. Farmersarebusysetting each seedling into flooded fields. Emerald tendrils unfurl along tiered ridges, forming "stairways connecting heaven and earth." Dong villages nestle among cloud-ringed peaks, their reflections dancing upon liquid mirrors that inscribe the wisdom of agrarian civilization across the sky.

Amidst transplanting rice shoots, the Dong peopleplay 'mud battles', transforming labor's toil into an earthy celebration, a passionate ode to the land. As the cry 'Close the rice-planting gate!' echoes across fields, they await the promise of another bountiful harvest.
June arrives—the year at its zenith. Guided by an ancient covenant with the seasons, we busy ourselves with both sowing and reaping.
